Providing a national system for training and apprenticeships
The Training Group was previously known as ATLAS Training Group and was formed in August 1974 as Steeplejack Industry Training Group to organise systematic training for the Industry.
The Training Group work very closely with National Specialist Accredited Centre (NSAC); Construction Industry Training Board (CITB); Construction Skills at the National Construction College (NCC - Bircham Newton, Norfolk) and the Association of Technical Lightning & Access Specialists (ATLAS).
The Training Group has formulated and developed both the Steeplejack and Lightning Protection national apprenticeship schemes along with adult learning and continues to expand training availability for this very specialist industry.
The Group is run by an elected Council of up to 13 people drawn from member companies. Council meetings are held four times a year and are open to all SLPTG members to participate in discussions on industry training requirements.
The council is elected annually and full details of current council Members can be found in the Latest News section of our website.
Group training ranges from new construction apprentices right through all craft training to bespoke supervisory and management courses.
The trade association representing steeplejacks and lightning conductor engineering companies is ATLAS, and they can be contacted on 0844 249 0026 or by visiting www.atlas.org.uk.
